ISFET-based pH sensor control successfully miniaturised and optimised for ease of use
Mar 12, 2025

The Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS has reached another milestone in chemical liquid analysis. The electronics required to control the ion-sensitive field effect transistors (ISFET) have been
miniaturised many times over. At the same time, it has been possible to cut manufacturing costs and reduce power consumption. The new electronics can be made available for direct use or for integration into own measuring systems.
The ion-sensitive field effect transistor (ISFET) can measure pH very precisely and, like the conventional glass electrode, is combined with a reference electrode.
Compared to the glass electrode, the ISFET has several advantages and features:
- Low power consumption
- Low drift
- Mechanical robustness, almost unbreakable
- Extensive pressure stability
- Dry storage possible
- Adaptation to measuring conditions
- High integrity and miniaturization
- Minimal sensitivity to light
- ESD protection
- Array design possible
